This year’s Relay for Life theme is going to bring the noise, and the community will have the first taste next week.
On Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Cumming City Park, 437 Pilgrim Mill Road, Relay for Life will host a kickoff dinner to give out information about this year’s event and what Relay for Life is.
“Tuesday is our kickoff dinner where teams, individuals, participants, survivors, anybody who’s interested in learning or hearing about the Relay for Life in Forsyth County and how we are using our theme this year of Banding Together for a Cure to try to get other organizations to … join us,” said Rena Pendley with the American Cancer Society.
This year’s event will be different than past years’ and will involve other local nonprofit groups.
Relay for Life will have the musical theme “Banding Together for a Cure” this year, and costumes aren’t required but are encouraged for Tuesday’s dinner.
“Our teams are encouraged to decorate their campsites at Relay this year as one of their favorite bands,” Pendley said. “So people are encouraged to dress up Tuesday night to have a little bit of fun, if you want to. We will be giving out an award for the best dressed. If you do come, dress in your best purple because Relay for Life is all about purple – because purple is for all cancers – or dress as a band. Some people have a lot of fun with it.”
Relay for Life will take place on April 26 at the Cumming Fairgrounds.
Pendley said no RSVP is required on Tuesday and dinner will be served.
