GAINESVILLE — A man working at a Dawsonville Highway auto shop was killed today when a car rolled on top of him, according to Hall County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Deputy Nicole Bailes.

The man, whose name is being withheld until next of kin is notified, was assisting a customer at VW Parts and Imports at 2040 Dawsonville Highway, Bailes wrote in an email. After supposedly slipping out of gear, a car sitting on a slight grade rolled on top of the victim, who was standing in the driveway.

Sheriff’s office deputies and fire personnel responded before 1 p.m. to the scene, where the victim was pronounced dead.

A professional mechanic will aid investigators in determining what caused the vehicle to shift out of gear.

The man was contracted through the business to perform mechanic work, Bailes wrote.

The case is still under investigation.
