• What: Child safety seat checks

• When: 1-4 p.m. Saturday

• Where: Northside Hospital-Forsyth Women’s Center parking lot

Child safety seat checks will be available during a fundraiser for March of Dimes this weekend.

Sgt. A.J. Frampton of the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office said deputies and Forsyth County firefighters will be conducting the checks at a fashion show and family festival event from 1-4 p.m. Saturday at Northside Hospital-Forsyth Women’s Center.

Frampton said the checks are available for any family with children under 8 years old. There is no charge to have a seat checked.

Frampton said people should take advantage of child seat check events such as Saturday’s since often the seats are incorrectly installed.

“Most people, if you ask them, think that their child safety seat is put in correctly,” he said. “But when they’re checked by certified people, it turns out that about seven out of 10 are not, and that’s how kids get hurt is from those seats being improperly put in.”

Frampton said if families can’t make it to the event Saturday, they should contact the Forsyth County Fire Department to set up an appointment to have their child seats checked.

An appointment can be made with Laura L. Coleman, fire prevention training officer, by calling (770) 205-5699.

Besides the safety seat checks, the March of Dimes fundraiser also will feature a Mother’s Day-themed fashion show, an artist market with about 20 vendors, a bake sale and concessions, and activities for kids.
