FORSYTH COUNTY — Shady Grove Campground, a popular northeast Forsyth recreational area, has reopened for the spring, summer and fall seasons.

The campground at 7800 Shadburn Ferry Road is overseen by the Forsyth County Parks and Recreation Department. It will stay open until Nov. 8.

Jim Pryor, director of the department, said in a statement that officials were “excited about welcoming campers to officially begin the 2015 camping season.”

In addition to the more than 110 campsites, the 109-acre campground’s amenities include a beach and swim area, boat ramp with courtesy dock and group campsites with picnic shelters.

Also available are tent camping areas, as well as campsites with water and 30- and 50-amp power hookups.

Forsyth completed a variety of improvements to the campground prior to the start of the 2011 camping season.

Those projects included camping pads for larger recreational vehicles, a grassy play area and a shoreline restoration. The projects were made possible by the $100 million parks, recreation and green space bond that voters approved in 2008.

Department assistant director Tommy Bruce said campground use has continued to grow in recent years.

“We are proud to offer such a great amenity here in Forsyth County,” he said.

Campsites may be reserved up to the 30 days in advance with full payment. These reservations may be made in person at the campground.
