NORTHEAST FORSYTH — For outdoors enthusiasts, spring brings the first chance to enjoy camping and swimming in warmer weather.

Luckily, they don’t have to go far.

Shady Grove Campground on Lake Lanier in northeast Forsyth opened Friday for the 2016 season.

Matthew Pate with Forsyth County’s parks and recreation department, said in a statement that guests can expect some new sights and offerings.

“Shady Grove Campground grows in popularity every year,” Pate said. “This year visitors will notice updated landscaping and new signage, as well as renovated group campsites.

“Also new this year, we are very pleased to offer visitors the ability to reserve their campsites online.”

The 109-acre park features some 110 campsites and includes a beach, boat ramp with courtesy dock and playground.

Campsites include group sites with picnic shelters, areas for tent camping and sites with water and 30- and 50-amp power hookups.

The campground will remain open through Nov. 7. Reservations can be made at the campground visitor center or online at www.forsythco.com/parks.

The campground is at 7800 Allyn Lane Memorial Way, formerly Shadburn Ferry Road.

Guests can make reservations up to 30 days in advance. The visitor center can be reached at (770) 205-6850.
