Belk in Cumming will hold its annual Spring Charity Sale on May 2.

The four-hour, in-store shopping event offers a fundraising opportunity for participating nonprofit organizations and a chance for customers to support charities and enjoy discounts on purchases.

In return for a $5 donation, customers receive a ticket to the sale, set for 6-10 a.m., that entitles them to discounts ranging from 20 to 50 percent on purchases (excluding cosmetics and fragrances).

Customers also receive $5 off their first purchase of $5 or more, and Belk card-holders will receive double points for card purchases.

Participating local charities sell tickets in advance and get to keep the proceeds from those sales.

Tickets may also be bought at the store, with all donations divided among the participating charities and schools.

There is no limit on ticket sales or the amount of money raised. Belk provides tickets and materials at no cost to the participating groups.

In addition, customers can register to win one of three $1,000 Belk shopping sprees. All participating charities and schools are eligible to win one of three $1,000 donations.

The company's previous charity sale, held Nov. 15, raised more than $4.5 million for participating nonprofit organizations throughout the company's 16-state market area.
