Authorities are looking for a man who reportedly robbed a woman at gunpoint last week in southwest Forsyth County.

Karleen Chalker, Forsyth County Sheriff’s spokeswoman, said the incident occurred about 2:20 p.m. Wednesday at Northwinds Gymnastics Center on Industrial Court.

She said Tracie Schoenher, of McDonough, reported that she had just dropped off her daughter at the center when a man approached her.

Schoenher, 40, told authorities the man pointed a gun at her waist and asked her for her purse, which she said she didn’t have.

Her daughter had already gone inside the building.

“Then he said, ‘Well, give me your wedding rings,’” Chalker said. “He did take her engagement ring and wedding band.”

The suspect then told Schoenher to go inside the building, Chalker said, keeping the gun pointed at her.

The man left on foot toward Hwy. 9 and McFarland Parkway.

Deputies and K-9s searched the area but did not locate the suspect, Chalker said.

The suspect is described as a black man about 5 feet, 8 inches tall. He wore a silver or grey hooded sweater that was unzipped with a black shirt underneath.

“We haven’t had any related incidents like this whatsoever, as far as an individual actually approaching someone and holding them up at gunpoint,” Chalker said. “This is a rather unusual event in our county.”
