The driver of a Chevrolet pickup truck was taken to a hospital Monday after the vehicle toppled some supporting poles from the awning at the Happy Family restaurant building and struck several cars behind the Forsyth County Courthouse.

Cumming police say the driver, who was alone in the pickup, swerved out of the lane when entering West Courthouse Street, jumped the curb and struck the support posts.

The truck then came back out into the street, crossed three lanes, and hit at least three cars parked behind the courthouse.

No one else was injured in the crash, which occurred about 3:30 p.m. and shut down West Courthouse Street for a short time.

Authorities continue to investigate the wreck, which they say may have been caused by a medical condition.
