Traffic was delayed Tuesday on a major thoroughfare in south Forsyth after a piece of equipment on a power pole malfunctioned, officials said.

Forsyth County Sheriff’s Lt. Jody Chapman said traffic on Sharon Road was diverted from about 10:45 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. between Old Atlanta Road to Peachtree Parkway.

He said traffic was blocked at the entrance to the Sharon Green Shopping Center and at Sharon Springs Park.

Blake House, spokesman for Sawnee EMC, explained that a piece of equipment overheated on a power pole near the Sharon Road-Peachtree Parkway crossing.

"We were able to dispatch a crew and isolate that section and get the power restored in about 15 minutes," House said.

He added that the power pole was replaced while the electricity was on.

He said transferring wires from one pole to another can take a while.

"It’s not a very common occurrence," he said.
