On Friday, the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1030 will host “Saluting America’s Veterans,” the city of Cumming’s annual Veterans Day ceremony in downtown Cumming.

“This is a program that is all about honoring our veterans,” said Marty Farrell, with the group.
Farrell said different veterans organizations take turns running the ceremony — this will be the VVA’s first time organizing the event.

When and where

11 a.m. on Friday at The Cumming Veterans War Memorial on Veterans Memorial Boulevard.

What will be taking place

“We will have the flag presentation by the Forsyth County Fire Department Honor Guard,” Farrell said. “The Flash of Crimson Band of Forsyth Central High School will be doing the national anthem.”

A student who received a scholarship from the group will also read an essay on “Why freedom isn’t free,” and 51 Vietnam veterans will be honored. The keynote speaker is retired Navy Rear Adm. Tilghman Payne.
