The Community Clean-Up runs from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday. Volunteers should gather at the Castleberry building, 301 Veterans Memorial Blvd. For more information, contact (770) 205-1701, kerryrosewall@connectforsyth or www.handsonforsyth.org.
As the annual Hands On Georgia Week winds down, Keri Rosewall is encouraging people to continue to volunteer throughout the year.

Rosewall, the volunteer coordinator for Hands On Forsyth, said this year’s local event “has been scaled back.”

Hands on Georgia Week encourages Georgia residents to give back to their communities through volunteer service.

“We decided we wanted to concentrate on doing more things year round instead of concentrating on Hands on Georgia Week,” Rosewall said.
“We’re not cutting back on what we’re doing as an organization, but we’ve cut back on trying to put them all within this one week of service.”

The week’s largest volunteer opportunity is Thursday afternoon during the second annual Community Clean-Up in downtown Cumming.

The event, which begins at 4 p.m., is in partnership with Keep Forsyth County Beautiful. Its aim is to clean the streets of downtown Cumming in preparation for the annual Cumming Country Fair & Festival, which begins Oct. 8.

At least 50 volunteers are expected to attend, but Rosewall said there’s always room for more.

“We’ve always been very fortunate in this county that we always have people that love to volunteer,” she said.
