Forsyth County residents looking to do a good deed can lace up their hiking boots and head over to the Sawnee Mountain Preserve (click for map) on April 25.
Hike 4 Hyde is a fundraiser for children with Atypical HUS, or hemolytic uremic syndrome. Those who register for the event can come by anytime between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. for food, drinks, music, inflatables, face painting and raffle prizes.
The hike is named after local 2-year-old Hyde Talbot, who suffers from the disease that affects only about 300 to 600 people in the United States.
The April 25 event benefits research of Atypical HUS. Hyde’s mother, Phyllis Talbot, said they’ve got more than 100 registrations at this point.
“We’re doing good so far,” Talbot said. “We’ve got a million people who say they’re coming too.”
The hike will go on rain or shine, Talbot added.
Early registration deadline for the hike is April 15. However, folks can register the day of the event as well. Entry fee prior to April 15 is $25 for adults and $10 for children 12 and younger. Day-of prices are $30 for adults and $12 for children.
All participants will receive a short sleeve T-shirt and raffle ticket. Additional tickets will be available for purchase at the event for $1 each.
Items in the raffle include gift certificates from several local businesses and sports memorabilia like a ride-along with former NASCAR driver Richard Petty and Atlanta and Gwinnett Braves tickets.
The Sawnee Mountain Preserve is located at 4075 Spot Road.
