Waterway cleanup looking for volunteers

Local groups are looking for volunteers to help clean up trash for local waterways.

From 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 15, volunteers will clean up Lake Lanier and its tributaries as part of the 30th Annual Shore Sweep/Rivers Alive Cleanup. The event is being hosted by Keep Forsyth County Beautiful, the city of Cumming and the Lake Lanier Association.

The cleanups are commonly attended by scout troops, organizations and local families. Volunteers with boats of all kinds are also being sought.

KFCB will be doing work at Bald Ridge, 1850 Bald Ridge Marina Road, and Port Royale, 8800 Port Royale Drive, marinas. Volunteers can register by Friday, Sept. 14 by phone at (770) 205-4573 or online at www.keepforsythcountybeautiful.org.

Volunteers will meet at the marinas to gather supplies, receive instructions and to pick up a T-shirt.
