Woman killed in wreck on Browns Bridge Road Saturday identified

Forsyth County officials have released the name of a Monroe County woman killed in a wreck on Browns Bridge Road Saturday afternoon.

According to a press release by the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office, 26-year-old Wachovia Thompson pronounced dead at the scene when a 2002 Infinity traveling eastbound on Browns Bridge Road near Jot Em Down Road crossed over the center line and struck a 2006 Chevrolet truck.

Cpl. Doug Rainwater, spokesman for the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office, said that Thompson was a passenger in the 2002 Infinity. He said that the Infinity’s driver, a 34-year-old man from Gainesville received serious injuries in the wreck and is currently in critical condition.

He said that the driver of the 2006 Chevrolet truck and two juvenile passengers were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Browns Bridge Road was closed from 3-5:30 p.m. Saturday.

Rainwater said that the cause of the wreck is currently under investigation by the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Specialist Unit.

The incident is the second fatal wreck on Browns Bridge in less than a week.
