GAINESVILLE — Roadwork on Browns Bridge Road/Hwy. 369 in Gainesville wasn’t finished Thursday as planned.

Instead, Georgia Department of Transportation officials said, the work to replace and smooth asphalt in Gainesville will continue next week.

Crews were working eastbound at Hilton Drive. After taking Friday off, they’ll continue toward E.E. Butler Parkway and, if the weather cooperates, should finish next week.

The outside eastbound lane will be closed as crews work 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

“Extreme delays” are expected. The DOT advises drivers to avoid the area if possible.

The pavement surface in that area is damaged, requiring it to be replaced and resurfaced to provide a “much smoother roadway,” according to the DOT.
