A fund has been established for the son of a 44-year-old Forsyth County man who died Tuesday night in a single-vehicle wreck in northern Gwinnett County.

According to a report from Gwinnett County police, Jeffrey Mathews of Cumming was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center after his 1996 Ford Mustang crashed on Tuggle Road near Hamilton Mill Road in Buford.

The incident occurred about 8 p.m. Tuesday. Mathews was pronounced dead at the hospital, the report said.

Authorities think Mathews was traveling east on Tuggle when his car left the road.

“The vehicle struck several objects before flipping and ejecting the unrestrained driver,” the report said. “At this time, investigators believe that speed appears to be a contributing factor for the accident.”

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to a savings account for Mathews’ son, William Mathews, at Bank of America.

In addition to his son, Matthews is survived by his wife, Tanya, brother, Todd Mathews of Sugar Hill, and sister, Margy Mathews of Lawrenceville.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 Friday night at Ingram Funeral Home.

Memorial services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday.
