Earth Fare Inc., has announced the nationwide closing of all locations, including the local store at The Collection on Ronald Reagan Boulevard.
The company announced the closures on Monday, Feb. 3 saying that it will “will begin inventory liquidation sales at all of its stores” and will “pursue a sale of assets, in whole or in parts.” Employees have been notified of the closures.
"Earth Fare has been proud to serve the natural and organic grocery market, and the decision to begin the process of closing our stores was not entered into lightly. We'd like to thank our team members for their commitment and dedication to serving our customers, and our vendors and suppliers for their partnership," said Earth Fare officials in a news release.
As the Asheville-based natural and organic grocery market closes, sales will be held for “outstanding assortment of merchandise at very significant price reductions,” including store fixtures, the release said.
Officials said though the company had attempted in recent years to expand and offer a better customer experiences, the stores had faced financial woes.
"While many of these initiatives improved the business, continued challenges in the retail industry impeded the company's progress as well as its ability to refinance its debt. As a result, Earth Fare is not in a financial position to continue to operate on a go-forward basis. As such, we have made the difficult, but necessary decision to commence inventory liquidation sales while we continue to engage in a process to find potential suitors for our stores," the release said.
Officials with Earth Fair at The Collection, which opened in 2015, confirmed the closing but said they could not give any other comment. No last day for the store has been set.
