Marshalls, the off-price department store, is coming to Market Place Boulevard in Cumming, but exactly when it will open is uncertain.

A sign has been hanging outside 1350 Market Place Boulevard for a few weeks indicating Marshalls is “coming soon,” but a representative with TJX Companies, the Massachusetts-based corporation that owns Marshalls and several other department stores like TJ Maxx and HomeGoods, is not ready to announce when it will open.

“We tend to announce our plans when we believe the time is right to do so competitively,” said Katie Babb, a marketing specialist with TJX Companies.

Marshalls will replace ApplianceSmart, a discount appliance retailer that has struggled in recent years. The company, which once had 20 locations across the U.S., now has just three, according to Live Ventures Incorporated, the holding company that acquired ApplianceSmart in April 2018. ApplianceSmart filed for bankruptcy this past December.

Marshalls, meanwhile, is doing just fine. The company has 1,110-plus locations across the U.S. and Canada and launched its first e-commerce store last September.
