You can also read Moments online at www.forsythnews.com/moments.
If you didn’t pay much attention to the inserts in Sunday’s home-delivered newspaper, read on to find out about a new publication called Moments: For and About Moms and Women.
Subscribers of the Forsyth County News should have received a copy of the magazine with today’s edition. (Not a subscriber? Contact me to learn how to become one.)
Moments will also be available later this week at Moments stands at select outlets throughout the county.
As director of content for this exciting venture, I can tell you the last few months have been busy. We hope our readers enjoy it.
Of course, I was thrilled with the concept when it was first proposed. But why a magazine for and about moms and women?
To answer that, I turned to John Hall, publisher of the FCN. John told me the paper is always looking for ways to appeal to readers, and there seemed to be a void of local material specifically for women.
"We also sensed there was an appetite for content that not only told the stories of interesting and accomplished moms and women, but also entertained and provided useful information for everyday life in the workplace and at home," John said.
I loved the idea. As a mother of four, with pretty much an insane schedule most of the time, I value any chance to sit down and read.
As a busy mom, I also want to read about things that help me save time and money, as well as basically anything relevant to my little world in our community.
I also enjoy learning about what’s going on and who’s involved with various projects.
With Moments, we want to meet that need for busy moms and women in Forsyth and neighboring counties. We hope to tell you what’s going on, who’s doing what, and also share ideas and tips to help navigate your busy lives.
Moments will include regular features, such as Dinner Matters, where we provide simple yet delicious recipes that are sure to become family favorites.
The feature Home Matters will cover a variety of topics, including eco-friendly cleaning products and how to get the most out of your spring cleaning. Both are covered in the first issue.
We will keep you posted on what’s trending. And when we discover a particularly good product on the market, we’ll tell you about it.
To help make the most of gardening and lawn projects, readers will find advice from our local agricultural extension office.
There will also be a regular column that recommends affordable, readily available wines for those of us who enjoy wine but aren’t necessarily experts or wealthy.
We will often feature articles pertaining to health issues, especially those relevant to women and children.
Like to read? Another regular segment will highlight local book clubs and tell you what they’re reading. As an avid reader, I’m always interested to see what others are reading.
I’ve had the privilege of meeting and getting to know many of my readers over the years, and I think men are also going to enjoy Moments — even if they won’t admit it.
In fact, I know many fathers that are the "Mr. Mom" of the household. They may particularly enjoy the articles pertaining to children and household maintenance.
Please check out the new magazine and let us know what you think. As always, we value your opinions and your readership.
