Letter: Gun laws are tough enough
Letter

This is a response to a letter printed in FCN on Sunday, Feb. 24, 2019, written by Julie Kimball reflecting on the anniversary of a shooting. It is a softly-worded calling for unity, “advocate for gun sense legislation” and “reforming gun laws to make America safer.” If I may quote Ozzy Osbourne “If guns kill people, why do we send people with guns when they go to war? Why not just send guns.”

Maybe our gun violence problem is a people violence problem. A call for more gun control proves gun control does not work. How does restricting the rights of law abiding gun owners prevent criminals from committing crimes?

It is not about safety, it is about control.

There are background checks at every level, there are currently laws to keep guns away from the mentally ill and convicted domestic abusers. A gun purchased in another state must be sent to a dealer in the purchaser’s home state to complete a background check. Background checks are required at gun shows, no loop hole.

If you truly want to understand gun owners I suggest you go to a gun range, talk to the gun owners, the sales staff and do some shooting yourself.
