Letter to the editor
Annual number of abortions is staggering

Forsyth County News

The Forsyth County news printed a letter on Sunday titled, “Early abortion cannot be equated to murder,” where the author commented that “Abortion is not murder, no matter how many times they quote the Bible … It is the removal of cells often after a rape, incest or to save a woman’s life.”

Well here is a factoid that the author in her zeal to excuse abortion seems to have overlooked: Nearly half of pregnancies among American woman are unintended, and about four in 10 of these are terminated by abortion. Twenty-two percent of all pregnancies, excluding miscarriages, end in abortion.

Forty percent of pregnancies among white women, 67 percent among blacks and 53 percent among Hispanics are unintended. In 2008, 1.2 million abortions were performed.

One guy kills 20 innocent kids with a gun and we go nuts about guns. But, we literally kill upwards of 1.2 million unborn innocents — not rape, incest or to save a woman’s life — and no one says a word? Please, give me a break!
