Forsyth Central’s girls are state-bound, after a fourth-place finish in Region 6-AAAA.

The Lady Bulldogs averaged a 24:15 finish at Atlanta’s Shamrock Middle School Saturday, earning the region’s final spot  at Saturday’s state meet at Carrollton High School.

Central finished behind Marist, Lakeside and Southwest DeKalb in the team standings.

Ani Popp was Central’s top finisher, coming in 12th with a time of 22:16.

Allison Mahaffey (17th), Danielle Cureton (24th), Madison Cheeves (25th) and Sarah Holly (27th) finished out the scoring for Central.

Coach Ryan Payne believed it was the program’s first state berth in history.

“They all ran really well, so we’re happy with it,” Payne said.

“We’re just going to run hard this week, kind of relax on Friday and go down there and try as hard as we can.”
