Forsyth Christian School picked up a heavy hitter for its first-year football program.
Former Clemson University star and NFL All-Pro Terry Kinard was named head football coach of the south Forsyth private school on Friday.
Kinard will take the reigns of the eight-man tackle program over the summer, as the school prepares for its initial camps and training sessions prior to season opener on August 15.
A former two-time All-American defensive back at Clemson, Kinard offers a resume that includes playing and coaching experience at the high school and college level, and brings the leadership that school administrators desire for their players.
Kinard's playing experience is well chronicled, as he remains the only two-time All-American out of Clemson University, still holds the Clemson interception record and was named to the NFL All-Pro team as a member of the New York Giants after helping lead the team to a Super Bowl victory in 1986.
Kinard's honors include being a member of the USA Today All-Decade team for the 80's, the College Football Hall of Fame and the Sports Illustrated College Football Centennial Team.
He also holds the distinction of being the very first selection of Bill Parcells in the first round of the NFL draft, before going on to the Super Bowl under the legendary coach and position coach Bill Belichick.
"We have been really blessed to have some great coaches here," athletic director Chris Walls said. "Last year we hired Jeff Vidd ... to direct our girls varsity team.
"We've seen him do wonders with our girls program in a short amount of time -- even taking them to the state tournament last year. This year, we're extremely blessed again to have such a talent available to us for our football program. We know Terry will provide the direction and the foundation that we're looking for."
As the school enters its fifth year in August, the program will open as members of the Independent Christian Schools of Georgia & Alabama (ICSGA), a conference in which the school has won region titles in both volleyball and basketball.
"We're all excited," Walls said. "We know there's a lot of work ahead of us, but, as I said before, more than anything, we're all just excited that we'll be cheering on Friday nights this fall, and thrilled that Terry will be leading this effort for our kids."
