Denmark is headed to the Final Four.
The Danes held off Upson-Lee on Tuesday, 71-68, to reach the Class 4A semifinal for the first time in school history.
The Danes held a seven-point lead at halftime, and extended their lead to a double-digit margin in the second half, then escaped with a victory after Upson-Lee’s last-ditch effort to tie the game went in and out of the basket.
Denmark (25-5) will face the winner of Woodward Academy/Sandy Creek at 4 p.m. Friday at Fort Valley State University. Woodward will host Sandy Creek at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Woodward ended Denmark’s season last year with a 58-50 win in the Elite Eight.
Denmark has built on the success of its inaugural season in its second year as a program, and is currently riding a 10-game winning streak dating back to a 70-51 win against Furtah Prep on Jan. 18.
The Danes coasted through Region 7-4A, finishing with a perfect 13-0 record and a No. 1 seed entering the Class 4A playoffs.
Woodward (27-2) is the top seed out of Region 4-4A, where the War Eagles went 13-1, its only blemish coming during a 67-64 loss to Druid Hills.
