Forsyth Central boys basketball head coach Greg Dirst will retire from coaching basketball after this season, the school announced in a release on Monday.

“Greg has done an outstanding job of leading our boys basketball team," Central principal Mitch Young said in a statement. "From his development of a feeder program to transitioning into 7A competition to bringing basketball back to the Dome, Greg’s enthusiasm and hard work have laid a solid foundation for future success."

Dirst has served two stints as the Bulldogs' head coach, first in the 1990s and the second starting in 2012. He has compiled a 57-116 record in his second stint, with Central's 12-14 mark in 2016-17 being the team's best mark during that tenure. The Bulldogs have not made the state playoffs since 2001.

Central is 3-12 and 0-2 in Region 5-7A so far this season. Dirst also coaches the school's boys golf team.
