Former Forsyth Central softball standout and Piedmont College senior pitcher Brittney Head was named a Capital One Academic All-District honoree by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale), have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. In addition, nominated student-athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's matches at their respective positions.
Head has been dominant for the Lady Lions this season going 20-2 in 26 starts with a 1.09 ERA. Head has 113 strikeouts in 154 2/3 innings while opposing batters are hitting just .198 against her.
Head won five straight games in three days to help Piedmont win the USA South Tournament title to earn the league’s automatic berth in the NCAA National Tournament.
Head and the Lady Lions (41-6) get the NCAA Division III Softball Regional started Friday at 1 p.m., against Lynchburg at Emory Softball Field in Atlanta.
