Forsyth Central failed to qualify for state at the Region 7-AAAAA cross country championship on Saturday at Boling Park in Canton, but the Bulldogs turned in a couple of solid individual performances.

The Lady Bulldogs finished in 10th place in the team standings, but freshman Bonnie McKinnon took the sixth overall place and broke the 5000m school record with a time of 20:25 to qualify for the state meet.

"She’s, without a doubt, taking off," girls head coach Jeremiah Walker said. "She’s a very talented runner.

"We’re not really a team as we are a family. Coach [Greg] Parker and I pride ourselves on the unity [of both teams]. They push each other and are fun to watch."

Freshman Max Warner led the boys to a seventh place finish in the team standings, while he claimed 13th place in the individual honors.

"He’s a great runner who works hard and likes to run," boys head coach Greg Parker said. "We’ve worked on pacing him and he’s gotten faster. I suspect he’ll break more school records. His goal is to run in the Olympics."
