What to know: It doesn’t look likely that Central will get an upset in region play this season—something that would have undoubtedly counted as a token of success, despite the overall record, in the Bulldogs’ first year of redefining themselves under first year head coach Frank Hepler. After a 3-1 start that was a product of a lenient schedule, the Bulldogs have been outscored in region play 97-22. Last week’s shutout loss at Milton, which had been struggling in league play as well, was undoubtedly a low moment.

Meanwhile, South has found its form and still is mathematically in contention for a region title, but in reality is playing to earn the No. 2 seed out of Region 5-7A and a home playoff game in the first round. The deciding factor will be South’s game next week against West, but the War Eagles will have to handle business on the road against the Bulldogs first. Be on the lookout for more carries for South’s Julian Mingo, who returned to the offense last week after making a name for himself as a defensive specialist over the last two seasons.
