Lambert grad Zach Graveno was named to the 2017 Collegiate Baseball Freshmen All-American team Wednesday.

The Mercer University pitcher and 2016 Forsyth County News Baseball Pitcher of the Year was one of the more reliable options out of the bullpen for the Bears this season. Graveno went 6-1 over 21 appearances, including two starts, with 24 strikeouts in 30 innings, helping the Bears go 39-17 overall and 17-6 in the Southern Conference to win their third straight SoCon regular season title.

Mercer signed Graveno after he bloomed in his senior season at Lambert. He didn’t allow a run in his first 42 2/3 innings and finished 10-0 with a 0.53 ERA and 70 strikeouts in 66 2/3 innings to help the Longhorns win a region title and reach the state quarterfinals in Class 6A.
