Derrick DeWitt, the only head coach Lambert’s boys basketball program has ever known, resigned last week after three seasons.
DeWitt compiled a 32-45 record at Lambert, and the Longhorns finished the 2011-12 campaign with their first winning record (15-11).
Lambert suffered a season-ending, 67-61 overtime loss to Rome in the opening round of the Region 7-AAAA tournament Feb. 11 at Cass High School in White.
“Coach DeWitt did an excellent job of starting this program and taking us to this point,” Lambert athletic director Drew Ferrer said.
“We are grateful for all he’s done for Lambert High School. We feel like we’re in great shape to move into the new 6A classification and be competitive.”
Ferrer said he hopes to have a new coach in place by the end of April.
DeWitt could not be reached for comment.
