Lambert’s M.E. Craven and Andrew Melms were named to the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association’s 2016-17 all-state girls and boys basketball teams for Class 7A North, respectively.
Craven helped the Lady Longhorns to their best season in school history: a 26-3 record and the team’s first region championship and appearance in the quarterfinals of the state playoffs.
The junior contributed at all five positions for Lambert, averaging 10 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.8 steals a game. She was even better in the team’s three state playoff games, when she averaged 15 points and 7.7 rebounds in wins against Central Gwinnett and Hillgrove and a loss to Collins Hill.
Melms led the Longhorns to a 24-5 record while averaging 11.3 points, 6 assists and 2 steals a game, and he bracketed his final season with two game-winning shots, including in Lambert’s victory over Meadowcreek in the first round of the state playoffs.
The senior point guard will leave Lambert as one of its most accomplished players. Melms helped the Longhorns win 75 games as a three-year starter and go 98-21 in his four total seasons on varsity during which Lambert played in four straight region championship games, winning two (2015, 2016).
