Lambert girls cross country had five runners in the top 20 to place third on Saturday at the University of Georgia Invitational at the UGA Equestrian Center.
The Lady Longhorns finished with 67 points, one behind runner-up Centennial. Walton won the event with 42 points.
Mackenzie Schaich led the Lady Longhorns placing 12th in 22 minutes 8.30 seconds. Freshman Mae McKenna was right behind her finishing in 22:08.80 to place 13th. Other leaders for Lambert were Megan Gianini (15th, 22:11), Madelin Gilleland (17th, 22:20) and Jamie Angle (18th, 22:33.80).
Forsyth Central’s Bonnie McKinnon finished in 22:09.20 to place 14th.
Schaich, Warner shine
Two of Forsyth County’s top boys runners had impressive performances at the University of Georgia Invitational.
Lambert’s Noah Schaich and Forsyth Central’s Max Warner placed fourth and fifth, respectively, out of 82 runners. Schaich finished in 17:26.30 while Warner finished in 17:39.10.
Lambert and Central, meanwhile, were even closer in the team standings – the Longhorns had 145 points to finish in sixth place, one point ahead of the Bulldogs who finished in seventh with 146.
Top runners for Lambert were Hank Grogan (29th, 18:48.20), Byron Grogan (33rd, 19:02), Sean Langley (41st, 19:18.70) and JT Salgado (55nd, 19:47.10).
Other runners who placed for Central were Charlie Webb (31st, 18:51.30), Will Scott (38th, 19:13.30), Cole Gizelback (39th, 19:14.90) and Will Hasse (45th, 19:27.80).
