Trexler Bennett had high expectations going into his senior season as Lambert’s team captain on the soccer team.
And he didn’t disappoint.
Local coaches named the Longhorns’ midfielder Forsyth County Boys Soccer Player of the Year. Bennett paced the team with three goals and 12 assists in region play and led Lambert to the playoffs for the third consecutive year.
"It was my last year playing competitive soccer, so I had to do everything I could," Bennett said. "Being named [Player of the Year] is the perfect ending to my high school career. … I’m proud of that.
"I definitely feel like Lambert is the strongest team in the county. I was surrounded by top players at Lambert."
Bennett plans to major in biological sciences at the University of Georgia with the hope of one day entering the dental field. The Bulldogs don’t have an official men’s soccer team, but they do have a club team that Bennett might play for, he said.
Bennett will continue to play for his club team, Concorde Fire, throughout the summer. His team won the national championship in 2011 and qualified for the championship again this season.
"We won it my sophomore year, so hopefully we’ll win it [again] my final time," Bennett said.
