Brookwood at Lambert

North at Archer

West at Dacula

When, where: Tonight, 7:30 p.m., at The Horn in Suwanee.

Records, rankings, seedings: Brookwood is 5-5, unranked in Class AAAAAA and the No. 3 seed from Region 8; Lambert is 6-4, unranked and the No. 2 seed from Region 6.

Series history: First meeting.

What to know: Brookwood and Lambert couldn’t be more different in playoff history. Since opening in 1982, the Broncos have 36 playoff wins, two state titles (1996, 2010) and are making their 12th straight playoff appearance. Lambert has no playoff wins in two previous appearances in the state playoffs since opening in 2009. This is the Longhorns’ second time hosting a playoff game.

But both teams followed similar paths this season. Brookwood started the season 0-3 but rallied to clinch its playoff spot with a 30-27 overtime victory in the season finale over Grayson thanks to a 31-yard field goal by Brandon Morrow, who also made field goals of 41, 47, 47 and 20 yards. Lambert was 1-3 before it won five of its next six games, including a convincing 33-14 victory over West Forsyth last week, to secure second place in Region 6-AAAAAA.

The story for Brookwood has been sophomore running back Jesse Brown who was slated to be a backup until his brother, Josh, tore his ACL in the season-opener. Brown stepped in and has averaged 124.8 yards per game, including 122 yards and a touchdown on 25 carries against Grayson. Lambert has been carried by a defense led by linebackers Zach Matthews (95 tackles, six sacks) and Dillon Alexander (41 tackles, nine sacks) and cornerback Jeremy Johnson (65 tackles, six INTs) that’s produced 24 turnovers.

What’s next: The winner will play the Etowah-Norcross winner.
