Lambert at Lanier

When, where: Friday, 7:30 p.m., at Lanier High School in Sugar Hill.

Records, rankings: Lambert is 1-2 and unranked in Class 7A; Lanier is 1-2 and unranked in Class 6A.

Series record: Lanier leads 2-0.

Last meeting: Lanier won 17-7 in 2015.

What to know: This is another revenge game for Lambert, who has had an up and down season early on.

Lambert earned some sweet payback two weeks ago with a 26-16 win over Collins Hill, who outed the Longhorns 35-13 in last year’s state playoffs, but they couldn’t carry the momentum against Cherokee last week.

For the last two years Lambert has fallen to Lanier in each of the past two seasons (27-14 in 2014 and 17-7 in 2015). While Lanier, which entered the season ranked in Class 6A, has fallen off, it still has a defense full of talent. The Longhorns from Sugar Hill started the season with an unsurprising win over Northview before losing to South Gwinnett and Northside-Warner Robins, however both of those teams have been or are still ranked in the top-10 of their respective classes.

A win for Lambert would be another signal to Gwinnett County that, while they may not be unscathed, they have the ability to win big football games—which would serve them well in the playoffs.
