Lambert left no doubt at the Forsyth County Track and Field Championships on Friday, taking the county title in both the boys and girls competition at West Forsyth High School.

The Lady Longhorns edged South Forsyth, 157.5 to 144.5, while the boy's also bested the War Eagles, but by a 56-point margin (168-112). While the boy's team won the event last year, the girls had reason to celebrate, weathering South's elite distance runners to take the title.

“It was an outstanding day,” Lambert track and field coach John McCormick said. “The kids have been getting ready for this all season, so they came up comfortable and warmed up for their events and just made it happen. There were some better performances and personal records that came together, so it was great.”

Lambert's 1,600-meter relay team of Amanda Clarke, Dominiq Delisser, Ryann Dickerson and Ashley Johnson topped the performance in the mild air after sundown, winning the event in a time of 4:05.69, edging South by almost five seconds.

Jordan Smith showcased her sprinter speed, winning the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash with times of 12.71 and 25.76, respectively, and Delisser took the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.53.

Lambert's girls also showed up in the field events, as Amanda Clarke won the high jump (5-02), Michelle Bourquin won the pole vault (9-00) and Johnson the long jump (17-04.75).

When asked which performances stood out, McCormick could only rattle off a few names before focusing on his entire team effort.

“Dominiq Delisser was awesome,” McCormick said. “But really, all around there were too many outstanding performances to name. I also thought Jonathan Schwind was outstanding in his mile and 800.”

Schwind cruised to a first place finish in the boys 1,600-meter run, edging West's John Green 4:26.30 to 4:32.97. Schwind also won the 800-meter run with a time of 1:53.29.

Green won the 3,200-meter run, which Schwind did not race in, edging Lambert's Byron Grogan by 12 seconds. For the girls, South's Savannah Carnahan unsurprisingly cruised to victories in the 1,600 and 3,200-meter runs with times of 5:04.22 and 10:42.94, respectively. Her teammate Kaylee DuPont followed just behind in both events, while Emma Maisel helped the Lady War Eagles sweep the 1,600 with a time of 5:16.83.

North Forsyth, which finished third in both boys and girls, showcased strong distance running and sprinting with Marcus Alvarez taking the 100 and 200-meter dash (11.04, 22.15). Jordan Palms ran the 400-meter in 51.09 to place first, and the duo combined with Bryson Trigg and Alex Killingsworth to win the 1,600-meter relay with a time of 3:27.63.
