Lambert baseball head coach Jamie Corr has been named high school Coach of the Year by USA Today, as chosen by writer Jim Halley, fellow coaches and recruiting analysts. The announcement came a day after USA Today ranked Lambert the No. 1 team in the nation.
Corr, who started the school’s baseball program in 2010, led the Longhorns to a 36-2 record and their first state title this season. Lambert defeated Milton in the Class AAAAAA series in three games to take home the crown.
In addition to dominating Georgia competition, Lambert also beat Brighton (Tennessee), Lewisburg (Mississippi), Christian Brothers (Tennessee) and Fayetteville (Arkansas) during the USA Baseball Classic in Memphis. This success against out-of-state powerhouses set Lambert apart from the country’s other premier clubs.
As the Longhorns cruised to a perfect regular season record, Corr was the guiding force that kept everyone humble. His approach — which emphasized that nothing was won until the state title was captured — made a strong impression on players, ultimately allowing them to achieve their biggest goal.
