A five-run sixth inning nearly set the table for an improbable Lambert comeback, but the Longhorns fell short Tuesday, losing 8-6 to Norcross.
Lambert (10-17) is eliminated from postseason contention.
Lambert dug itself in a hole early, as the Longhorns trailed 8-1 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning.
Allie Sewell led off the inning with a single and Anna Jackson followed with a double. Kirsten Cowart drove both runners in with a two-run single.
The Longhorns pieced together two more singles — one by Kayley Varner and another by Courtney Sauer — and an error to make it a two-run game heading into the final frame.
But Lambert went one-two-three in the bottom of the seventh to end the game.
Varner finished 1 for 2 with 3 RBIs, while Sauer went 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs. Brooke Miller also collected two hits for the Longhorns.
Miller took the loss, pitching 4 2/3 innings and giving up six runs on seven hits while striking out 10.
