Lambert continued its winning ways with a sweep of two county rivals.
The No. 8-ranked Lady Longhorns earned their third and fourth area victories by overpowering West Forsyth and North Forsyth on Tuesday.
The Lady Longhorns were tied 21-21 in the first game against North, but stellar defense and perfect ball placement helped them pull away from the Lady Raiders and win 25-23, 25-14 in an Area 5-AAAAAA matchup at Raider Arena.
Lambert also recorded a victory a 25-10, 25-19 victory over West earlier in the day. Chattahoochee downed the Lady Raiders (25-16, 25-19) to start play, and knocked off West (25-10, 25-17) in the final matchup.
"I’m really proud of how far my girls have come this year," Lambert head coach Missey Hall said.
"They are definitely a tight-knit team and play really well together. I feel like we are gelling at the right time and I’m looking forward to the high stakes part of our season. They have a lot fight in them and you can’t count them out."
The Lady Longhorns (22-7, 4-2 Area 5-AAAAAA) jumped out to a 12-5 lead in the opening game against North, but the Lady Raiders fought back by scoring seven of the next nine points.
Lambert took a timeout to regroup, but couldn’t immediately pull away from North.
After trailing 20-17, North’s offensive attack knotted the game at 21 apiece, forcing another timeout, but Lambert returned to the court inspired and scored the next two points, as Lambert squeaked by North in the first game.
It was all Lambert in the second game, as the Lady Longhorns thundered out to an 18-7 lead
before finishing off the Lady Raiders 25-14.
North (12-11, 1-5) was led by Carlee Praznik and Devan Hiers, who each finished with 10 kills on the night.
"The first game we were fighting with them, and they were right there, but we lost by two," North head coach Kathy Houston said. "In the second [game], we just started shooting ourselves in the foot. We started beating ourselves. We served the ball out and didn’t put the ball down.
"We just have to execute. We started passing poorly. We have the team to do it. We have a lot of ability, a lot of fight. We just have to put it together for a solid game."
The Lady Longhorns had no trouble with West in the first game of the day, as Lambert topped the Lady Wolverines (25-10, 25-19).
West (15-22, 1-5) trailed 9-7 early, but the Lady Longhorns rattled off 16 of the next 19 points for the victory.
The second game against West wasn’t as easy.
Tied at 7-7, Lambert scored eight consecutive points before West cut the lead to 17-12. The Lady Wolverines trimmed the lead again, making the score 22-19 before Lambert won the next three points.
Kara Templeton finished the day with 36 assists, while Caroline Lamb had seven kills, nine digs and eight aces for the Lady Longhorns.
