North Forsyth's season came to an end Friday following a 4-1 loss to Etowah in the Class 7A state tournament in Columbus.

The Raiders (31-5) couldn't overcome Etowah's three-run first inning, which featured a pair of home runs off North pitcher Kyleigh Sanders.

Etowah managed just one more hit all game — an RBI single in the second inning — but made those three hits stick despite being outhit 7-3.

Mallorie Black led the Raiders at the plate, finishing 2 for 3 and driving in North's only run with an RBI single in the sixth inning.

McKayla Cothran, Hailey Mize, Abby Martin, Maggie McBrayer and Anslee Anderson each collected a hit for the Raiders.

Mize relieved Sanders in the third inning and puzzled Etowah's offense through five shutout innings. All told, Mize pitched 12 shutout innings Friday, including seven earlier in the day during a 6-0 win against Parkview.

North will graduate six seniors of its back-to-back region championship squad, including Region 5-7A Offensive Player of the Year Mallorie Black.
