Forsyth runners dominate at Pickens Preview
Carnahan, Galarza and Green lead group with world-class finishes

Forsyth County schools made their presence felt at the Pickens County Preview Saturday at Roper Park in Jasper, hosted by Pickens County High School. West Forsyth’s girls won the event, with South Forsyth placing in third behind Northview. South and West placed second and third, respectively, in the boy’s race that was won by Flowery Branch.

Out of the 300 total runners that participated in the event, three of the six athletes who’s finishes in the 5K met the national silver standard: Savannah Carnahan of South and Liz Galarza and John Green from West.

Carnahan finished the 5K in 19:16.29, followed by Galarza’s time of 19:28.48. Those finishes ranked second and third, respectively, on the girl’s side of the field. Green’s time of 16:09.93 placed him second out of 155 boy runners.

South’s Milicent Bergey wasn’t far behind—her time of 19:53.60 earned her a fourth-place finish, just eight seconds off the silver standard. West’s Mallory Luskus (20:18.82) and Reagan Poteet (20:22.87) finished ninth and tenth.

Matt Patterson from South placed sixth (16:57.12) and Matt Bissett from West placed eighth (17:13.97).  

Northview’s Lindsay Billings, Flowery Branch’s Jake Shewbert and Pickens County’s Sean Parker were the other national silver standard runners.

North Forsyth finished 13th on the girls side and 11th on the boys. North runner Alex Peacock finished 19th to lead all North runners with a time of 17:43.77.
