Pinecrest Academy alum Micky Mangan was drafted by the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday in the 40th round of this year’s MLB Draft. Mangan is the second former Paladin to be drafted, after Andres Perez went to the Braves in the 36th round in 2016.

Mangan’s father, Ed, is the Braves’ head groundskeeper. Micky Mangan was the Paladins’ starting catcher in 2018 and hit .322 with 13 doubles, helping Pinecrest to a berth in the Class 1A-Private state quarterfinals, the deepest playoff run in the school’s history.

Wednesday was the final day of the draft, which went 40 rounds. Mangan was the third Forsyth County high school graduate to be drafted, after Lambert grad Seth Beer went to the Houston with the 28th overall pick and Forsyth Central alum Ethan Hankins went to the Cleveland Indians with the 35th pick on Monday night. No other county alums were drafted this year.
