ATLANTA – Ben Rivard scored a goal but it wasn’t enough as Pinecrest Academy boys soccer lost 5-1 to No. 1-ranked Paideia on Tuesday in the second round of the Class A private school playoffs.

Paideia advanced to play Athens Academy in the state quarterfinals, while the Paladins end their season at 11-8.

Pinecrest struggled to keep up with Paideia from the start, falling behind 4-0 in the first half. Rivard eventually broke through for Pinecrest just before halftime on a header off a cross by Lucas Perez.

But Paideia scored again early in the second half, and the Paladins couldn’t solve Paideia’s defense.
