Brookstone at Pinecrest Academy
When, where: Friday, 7:30, at Pinecrest Academy Stadium in Cumming.
Records, rankings: Brookstone is 4-6, unranked in Class 1A and the No. 24 seed; Pinecrest is 7-3, unranked and the No. 9 seed.
Series record: First meeting.
What to know: Pinecrest traveled over two hours to play its final regular season game at Bowdon last week. The Paladins won 20-14 in a playoff atmopshere and helped its case in the first round of the playoffs. Brookstone enters with a 4-6 mark and is the No. 24 seed—the last in the Class 1A private school playoffs.
The Paladins are feeling like themselves again after some tough moments earlier in the season—a 52-0 loss at South, a 28-3 loss at home against Mount Paran and a close 42-28 loss on the road at Fellowship. But, those were tough games—even though the Paladins aren’t ranked, like they were at this time last season, they appear a similar team. They are on a three-game winning streak where only two touchdowns have been scored on the defense, and the offense has been scoring at will since the Mount Paran contest on Sept. 30.
Brookstone has lot four of its last five and only has scoring totals of 7, 7 and 13 in those losses. The program from Columbus has a long winning tradition but has been an average team lately.
Up next: The winner will face Wesleyan, which has a first-round bye.
