What to know: Through all of the chaos so far this season, Pinecrest’s sure spot at the top of the GHSA Class A Power Ratings has been a constant, and that’s no different this week as the Paladins are spotted No. 3 with a 5-1 record—their only loss to the No. 2 team (and No. 1 team in the Georgia Sports Writers Association Poll)—and coming off a big, 49-13, win over St. Francis. Four of Pinecrest’s five wins have been blowouts. They have the lone loss to a dominant Mt. Paran team, as well as a squeaker against a very formidable Trion squad.
Expect this game to smell a bit more like the Trion game than any of the others. Mt. Pisgah is undefeated in region play and has learned how to win close games—three of its wins have been by a score or less, including an overtime game against Brookstone.
Pinecrest will continue to rely on its running game behind Ryan McCarthy, Gregory Varhese, Matthew Walters and Mitchell Ojeda. It helps that those guys can also turn around and play defense.
