When, where: Friday, 7:30 p.m., at Pinecrest Academy Stadium in Cumming.
Records, rankings: Mount Paran is 4-0, 0-0 in Region 6-A, Div. A and ranked No. 1 in Class A; Pinecrest is 3-0, 0-0 in Region 6-A, Div. B and unranked in Class A.
Series history: Mount Paran leads 1-0.
Last meeting: Mount Paran won 45-14 in 2014.
What to know: For the first time in Pinecrest history, the Paladins will face off against the defending state champions, and they’ll get to do it at home.
Both teams are undefeated, with Pinecrest at 3-0 and Mount Paran at 4-0. Mount Paran ranks No. 1 in the Georgia Sports Writers Association poll, while Pinecrest received three votes this week in the same poll. The plot twist: Pinecrest actually ranks No. 1 in the Georgia High School association power poll thanks to winning decisively against a Class AAAAA opponent, albeit it was against North Springs, who isn’t very good.
Mount Paran is operating without its state champion quarterback in Jake Allen (Mercer) and tailback in Dorian Walker (Georgia Tech), but has an early Georgia High School Football Daily Player of the Year candidate in Taylor Trammell, who has 764 yards on 91 carries and 14 touchdowns on offense and two interceptions on defense.
Pinecrest will deploy its triple option to hopefully diffuse a Mount Paran defense that makes its living in the interception and sack department. That game plan would also keep a potent offense, scoring over 40 points a game, off the field.
