What to know: Whitefield has its work cut out this Friday against a Pinecrest offense that averages 264.3 rushing yards per game. The Wolfpack lost, 21-14, to Mt. Zion-Carroll, a Wing-T team, on Sept. 12, though Whitefield and Pinecrest have achieved similar results against their common opponents. Mount Paran routed Whitefield, 49-9 and Pinecrest, 45-14 respectively; Whitefield beat Walker, 13-0, last Friday, after the Paladins beat Walker 42-14 on Sept. 12. Wolfpack quarterback Sky Dupree is a dual-threat—he threw for a touchdown in Whitefield’s loss to Mt. Zion and rushed for 119 yards and two scores in a 49-0 win over Providence. Running backs Niles Ball and Jordan Edge are Dupree’s main weapons. Ball is a threat on punt returns; the senior scored on a 48-yard return against Providence.

Pinecrest hoped it could hang with Class A No. 4 Mount Paran last Friday in Kennesaw, but things went awry early—the Paladins fumbled on a first-quarter kickoff return, allowed an 80-yard touchdown pass and a 40-yard hail mary touchdown as time expired in the first half. Ryan McCarthy and Mitchell Ojeda scored for Pinecrest. McCarthy (370 yards) and Ojeda (292 yards) rank fifth and sixth on the county rushing leaderboard, despite having played only four games, one fewer game than every other Forsyth County team. Now, Todd Winter’s Paladins get a shot to start 1-0 in Division B of Region 6-A; the Maxwell projections say Pinecrest is a nine-point favorite.
