Pinecrest Academy cruises past King's Ridge, set for rematch with state champs

ALPHARETTA – Pinecrest Academy’s 38-6 victory against King’s Ridge Christian on Friday in a Region 6-A, Div. B game on the road was littered with myriad accomplishments and milestones for the Paladins.

Most wins in a season since joining the Georgia High School Association? Check. Pinecrest’s fifth straight victory improved it to 8-1, eclipsing last season’s program-best seven wins since becoming a GHSA member in 2010.

Tied up the all-time series against one of Pinecrest’s rivals: Check. The Paladins have now won two straight against King’s Ridge to even their record at 3-3.

Set up a chance for a first-ever region title since joining the GHSA? Check. Pinecrest will get a rematch at home against defending state champion Mount Paran Christian, a 35-18 winner against Mt. Zion-Carrollton, this Friday to decide the Region 6-A champion.

Consider it Pinecrest Academy’s Game of the Century, Part 2.

“It’ll be a big one,” Pinecrest head coach Todd Winter said.

Pinecrest made sure it’ll be significant with a thorough performance against King’s Ridge (1-8). Behind quarterback Ryan McCarthy, the Paladins cruised on offense, highlighted by a 50-yard touchdown pass to Jack Binkley. Pinecrest never punted.

And the Paladins’ defense responded with starters Peter Nelson and Matthew Walters. No matter; Will Patota, Brooks Binkley and others stepped in.

“Our kids were ready to play, there’s no doubt,” Winter said.
