Pinecrest Academy boys’ basketball team’s season came to an end with a 66-50 loss to Athens Academy in the opening round of the Region 8-A tournament Saturday at Commerce.

The Paladins end their season at 11-15.

After a five-day layoff due to last week’s winter weather storm, Pinecrest struggled from the start. The Paladins trailed 29-12 at halftime and never recovered. Pinecrest shot just 36 percent (18-for-50) from the field.

Athens Academy meanwhile shot 58 percent, led by junior Eric Williams who scored a game-high 32 points. Williams was 18 of 21 from the free throw line.

Sean Flanigan led Pinecrest with 15 points. Nick Palmer added 13 points while Ryan McCarthy had nine points and 12 rebounds.
