PINECREST ACADEMY AT PRINCE AVENUE CHRISTIAN
When, where: Tonight, 7:30 p.m., at Wolverine Field in Bogart.
Records, rankings: Pinecrest is 5-3 overall, 2-2 in Region 8-A and unranked; Prince Avenue is 7-1, 4-0 and ranked No. 6 in Class A.
Series history: Prince Avenue leads 1-0.
Last meeting: Prince Avenue won 50-35 in 2012.
What to know: Coming off a 28-26 victory over Athens Christian, Pinecrest takes on its biggest challenge of the season with plenty at stake. No, the playoffs don’t look likely. The Paladins sit 26th out of 29 teams in the latest Georgia High School Association Class A Power Rankings. But Pinecrest needs just one victory in these next two games for its first winning season since joining the GHSA in 2010.
That will be a tough task against a Prince Avenue team ranked No. 6 in Class A. Runners up in the state last season, the Wolverines haven’t missed a beat under first-year coach Jeff Herron who came from Class AAAAAA power Camden County after three state titles in 13 seasons. The formula for Prince Avenue this season has been plenty of the backfield duo of Kevon Hudson and Zantravious Shields. The two combined for 295 yards and five touchdowns in Prince Avenue’s last game, a 57-7 win at Hebron Christian on Oct. 18.
